FSC soccer hopes to leave early struggles behind
After the defensive effort by the Mocs against Shorter, the men’s soccer team is gearing up to play against their rival, the University of Tampa.
Their next home game against the University of Tampa will be their fourth home game and the biggest yet. So far, the Mocs have started off their season with an overall 1-6 record and a conference record of 0-2.
“We’ve had some trouble figuring out who we are as a team, as well as how each player prefers to play so far. This has resulted in a bad start to the season,” sophomore Edward Spansk said.
Although the Moccasins are on a losing streak for the away games, they are tied with their win-loss streak for home games. Tampa proves to be their biggest rivals and the Mocs are ready to turn it around, not only for themselves, but also for FSC fans.
“We are starting to figure out our teammates and play better in practice, so I believe that we will be ready for Tampa. We plan to continue to work hard and come together as a positive unit and win some games,” Spansk said.
The Women’s soccer team have also suffered some loses at the front end of the season. Their record stands at 1-4-1. Their next game is an away game at the University of Tampa and their next home game is against Barry on Oct. 3.
“I truly think we are prepared to play any team in our conference. We just have to go out there and play our game and bring home a win which is very doable with the amount of talent we have this year,” sophomore Alex Diamandis said.
With the home game against Eckerd, the Mocs certainly showed that even with a minute left, they still wanted to try to make a last ditch effort in order to score. Sheila Ramos, Kylie Harris and Dominique Cirnigliaro had a hand at scoring the only goal for the team 19 seconds before the game was over.
“Our team motto that we wear on the back of our shirts is ‘together to get there.’ We have great team chemistry and even though we’ve suffered losses so far, we still work hard no matter the outcome. Hard work pays off and we are always getting better,” Diamandis added.
The Lady Mocs will be on the road against Tampa on Sept. 30 to battle for a conference win. The next home game will be conference match against Barry on Oct 3.
The Mocs hope to confinue the season, racking up many more wins.
