Local Music Showcase: Treis
Treis Heitsch otherwise known by his stage name “Treis” is an acoustic singer-songwriter from Orlando, FL who is currently attending the University of South Florida.
Heitsch recently released a 16-track debut album titled, “HOUSES.” on June 3rd. This album is a self-produced concept album. The album follows a chronological story from the years 2007-2015 as it revolved around Treis’s friends and family. It also narrates some of the most memorable moments of his childhood.
The inspiration for this album came in about 2014 when Treis was working on low quality mini EPs that were only 2-3 tracks long. Halfway through working on his second EP he decided to release a full-length album.
This album winded up being “HOUSES.”. The album is broken up into thirds and is based on Treis living in three different houses growing up. Each third is about each experience he had in those houses.
“The first four songs off the album were based off of my parents separating,” Heitsch explained. “Then the next five songs were about the townhouse I was living in at the time and also about someone I had dated. The last seven songs don’t really have a specific main idea but each of them have their own meaning.”
The entire recording process for “HOUSES.” took about nine months and the writing process took about a year and a half. Heitsch did most of the recording and producing by himself.
“I wrote 12 songs by the time Christmas of 2015 came around and then by January 2016, I recorded the last four songs," Heitsch said.
Although “HOUSES.” was just released three months ago, Heitsch is already working on a second album. The sound will be more upbeat and not as “homemade” according to Heitsch but it will still feature the banjo and acoustic guitar that are heard on “HOUSES.”.
“I don’t necessarily have a clear picture of exactly what this new album will sound like, but it is definitely moving,” Heitsch said. “I’m going to actually be teaming up with some great producers out of Clearwater named Jack McCoy and Dylan McBrayer. When they’re together they’re almost an unstoppable force and I can’t wait to see what they come up with”.
On September 16th, Treis will be performing songs off of HOUSES. for the first time at the Sunnyfluff Skate Shop in Tampa. He will be starting the show off at 8 pm along with other local bands, They Hate Change, Blank.wav and Babyblu. Admission is FREE for those who attend. The venue is standing room only with parking outside being free to the first 20 guests.
The bands performing are expecting a large crowd for this event. So make sure to show up early because it will be a packed like sardines not long after the doors open night. So come out and enjoy a night full of music, fun, and games. I know I’ll be there I hope to see you guys there too.
